The third and final cover of our Issue Eight is the Parisian home of creative couple Dahlia Hojeij and Augustin Deleuze photographed by Matteo Verzini.
As journalist Elsa Cau writes, in journalism, we often evoque the trope of an endless stream of enriching encounters with various interesting personalities. At the risk of sounding like a bitter old lady, allow me to assure you that, on the contrary, it is rare to come across true characters—those who genuinely spark curiosity and interest. Whether one appreciates or not the sofas by contemporary furniture designer Pierre Augustin Rose or the drapery of Studio Ebur, it is impossible to remain indifferent to this creative couple, slightly shrouded in an aura of mystery. Or perhaps, in a world that puts itself on display, it is simply their good manners and modesty when it comes to speaking about themselves.
Another common misconception: good weather. The pale sky on this winter day is as Parisian as can be—and, in reality, ideal for slipping quietly into the home of Dahlia Hojeij and Augustin Deleuze, in a historic building, a quintessential example of 17th-century French architecture. There are two possibilities: either the harsh light accentuates the imperfections of the space, or it highlights the perfect balance of a home. Dahlia Hojeij greets us with a warm smile, a steaming cup of coffee, and a Lebanese pastry in hand. In the 19th century, she might have been a muse to the Romantics or the Pre-Raphaelites. Today, she is an interior architect and designer, co-founder of Studio Ebur, whose neo-1910 light fixtures can already be glimpsed from the corner of the eye.
